Ms. Devasena Pasupuleti is a Doctoral (Ph.D.) scholar specializing in Human–Robot Interaction and a researcher with the Ishiguro Laboratory (Intelligent Robotics Group) and Yoshikawa Laboratory (Social Robotics Group) at Osaka University, Japan. She is a member of IEEE RAS, IEEE WIE, IEEE ES, and the Australian Linguistic Society. She holds a Master of Technology (honors) in Robotics and Automation Engineering and a Bachelor of Technology (honors) in Mechanical Engineering, both from Amrita University, India. Her past roles include working at the Future Life Village Pavilion during World Expo 2025, serving as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for Machine Learning at Amrita University, working as a Research Intern at AMMACHI Labs (Robotics and Human–Computer Interaction Research Center), and mentoring students in educational game design at Amrita Vidyalayam, India. She is also a certified RASA Developer.
Devasena has published and presented over 15 papers at leading international conferences and journals, including IEEE and ACM, receiving multiple Best Presenter and Best Research awards. She is frequently invited as a chief session speaker at IEEE technical events such as Prayana, Femessence, and Roboignite, as well as ACM events at IISc, India. Alongside her academic work, she has taught Python, Scratch, and Minecraft programming to elementary and high-school students at KINOCODE Institute, Japan, and currently mentors Master’s students in English communication at Osaka University. She has contributed to several international projects across the UK, Canada, India, and Japan, focusing on multimodal child-robot interactions, inclusive technologies for children, conversational AI systems, autonomous social robots for improving hand-hygiene behaviors, and gesture-controlled mobile robots. Her research interests include social robotics, human–robot interaction, conversational AI, and educational game design.
Beyond research, Devasena is a professionally trained Indian classical dancer and singer, with over 15 years of experience and more than 100 stage performances across India, Malaysia, and Japan. She explores the intersection of art and technology through robotics in dance and music, bringing a unique interdisciplinary lens to her work. She is also a children’s book author, having published her debut title, Adventures of Sally the Silly Robot (2025), which ranked #2 on Amazon’s Best Seller list, inspired by her belief that friendship and kindness transcend the boundaries between humans and machines. Outside her professional pursuits, she enjoys reading, gaming, volunteering with children, and spending time with animals.
